Welcome to my blog – a place where you’ll hopefully find some of my thoughts, ideas and areas I’m looking into as part of my academic research.
After a career working around the Midlands in newspapers, I switched to teaching at Staffordshire University before moving on to Birmingham City University, where I’m currently a senior lecturer with responsibility for the journalism pathway of their undergraduate Media & Communications degree.
My other ‘hat’ is firmly of the hyperlocal variety in the shape of LichfieldLive.co.uk – the site created alongside the brilliant Philip John back in the first decade of the noughties. It’s (still!) a site run by volunteers and something that we’re both incredibly proud of – even if my constant tech queries are probably sending my
ginger strawberry blonde buddy round the twist. The site has long been mentioned by some wonderfully friendly people and we even won a Midlands Media Award in 2015.
So why start a blog now I don’t hear you ask? Well, I once did keep a blog but let it slip and eventually pulled down the virtual roller shutter. But as I look towards the possibility of a PhD, it seems to make sense for me to get my head around the different topics I’ll be examining. This means there’s be plenty of my raw thoughts and ideas, as well as some links to bits and pieces I feel like I need to be across.
Thanks for dropping in – please feel free to have your say and share your thoughts and ideas.
